Mission San Jose to close during restorationMission San Jose in San Antonio will close during a 14-month restoration project.
The announcements came Tuesday night at a dinner celebrating the raising of $15.5 million to help preserve four mission churches overseen by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Antonio. Fundraising chairman Bill Klesse says "San Antonio people know the value of these missions." Mass will be celebrated at Mission San Jose's parish hall during the restoration. The San Antonio Express-News reports an advisory committee will work to increase the endowment established by the campaign, now at about $4.5 million. The church interior at Mission Concepcion was restored earlier this year as part of the first project made possible by the renovation efforts.
