We crafted Lumi to share the backgrounds of the minimalist temperament of Vietnam alongside the deliberate touches of Brazil. Lumi, derived from the Portuguese word “Lume”, is dictionary defined as “illumination.” The understated milieu, with its art gallery feel, is expressed through smooth, simple white walls and exposed glowing columns. It exhales a feeling of openness with its breezy walnut floor finishes next to black and white artwork.

This Austin import has delicious sushi, an intensely varied sake list, and creative renditions of lamb, venison and duck confit doused with Japanese sensuality. The 1,000-degree hot rock lets you sear your own kobe beef, fish, scallop and shiitake caps right at your table (10 minutes worth of searing power, so eat fast or order another rock). Sometimes things work, sometimes they don’t. And if you can get used to the numbing noise and the bank lobby feel, Kenichi is a great place to regularly visit and leer at the kitchen experiments — among other things.

Genghis Grill-The Mongolian Stir Fry, is a build your own bowl, fast casual, Asian stir-fry concept. The atmosphere is colorful, lively, and a lot of fun! It’s actually not a cuisine, but an INTERACTIVE style of exhibition cooking modeled after a centuries-old legend. According to this legend, 12th century Mongol warriors, led by the mighty warrior GENGHIS KHAN, heated their shields over open fires to grill food in the fields of battle!

There aren’t many places around town to sample Afghani cuisine. Hell, there aren’t many places around the country to sample this fare, this mesh of cuisines seemingly woven from Ottoman Empire remnants (Middle East, Greece, Asia, etc.). But you can do it here with delicious kebabs—chicken, lamb and beef with tomatoes, onions and peppers, perfectly fired and succulent. Or try the saffron rice that creates a lustrous tension of savory and sweet—raisins tangoing with coriander and lamb drippings. There’s tangy, smooth hummus, dolmas and meat dumplings filled with minced beef and onion and cabbage, meatballs ground so fine you’d swear they were spun from silk.
