Lake Pointe Medical Center has been serving the residents of Rockwall, Rowlett, Royse City and the surrounding communities since 1987. Dallas Regional Medical Center originally opened in 1964 as Mesquite Memorial Hospital. The hospital had 27 beds, 5 bassinets, 1 operating room, 1 delivery room, an Emergency Room and 7 physicians on staff. The hospital was expanded in 1975, purchased by Charter Medical Corporation in 1976 and renamed Charter Suburban Hospital. The campus continued to grow through the 1980's with the purchase of a three-story Medical Office Building (MOB). In 1990, the hospital underwent another ownership and name change and Paracelsus Healthcare Corporation, later known as Clarent Hospital Corporation, renamed the hospital Medical Center of Mesquite.
