As a young couple in the early 1930’s in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Troy and Gladys Alley dreamed of providing a better quality of life for their family. It was this desire that led the couple to embrace entrepreneurship and open the doors to the Alley Service Station, one of the city’s first Black-owned businesses. Although the family was faced with all of the hardships that are endured by first-generation business owners, Troy and Gladys Alley instilled in their offspring a strong willingness to persevere in even the most challenging conditions. Early on, sons Gerald and Troy, Jr. learned that quality; honesty, hard work and dedication are the foundation of both personal and business success.

We accept as fact if the students thoroughly understood the huge rewards that would com from his or her commitment to just a few more years of school, the dropout rate would decrease dramatically. We emphasize social reward just as much as financial reward. For example, the high school quarterback who is recognized and admired by the entire student body and often even the community in general because of his athletic prowess is not likely to drop out of high school because he is experiencing the rewards of his accomplishments.

Stan Moore, President of Moore Construction Management, Inc., has been in the construction field since 1970. He began with on the job training working in the Great Southwest Office Center in Arlington, TX. His experience began in the field and then in estimating and project management working for Mikus Construction Company in Grand Prairie, TX.

In the late 1800’s the “Wild West” was full of adventure, opportunity and danger with little in the way of amenities. Pioneer Laurence H. Rooney braved it all when he traveled from Iowa to the Oklahoma Territory and opened a general store with a sideline construction business. His strong work ethic and honest reputation were essential in the harsh outlaw prone environment. One year prior to his arrival, the last of the land runs had taken place and settlers were building homes and businesses throughout the Territory. As Laurence’s reputation for honesty and hard work grew in the community so did his building business. It wasn’t long before the sideline business became primary and in 1896 Manhattan Construction Company was officially born.
