This is one of those places where deciding which is sweeter eye candy--the exquisite cuisine or the sleek clientele--is no easy task. Executive chef Kent Rathbun, formerly of The Mansion, serves up highly original blends of Asian and Southwest cuisine. The lobster scallion "shooters," bite-sized lobster morsels served with red chile coconut sake, are one of the most inventive entrées on the menu. When asked how the hip restaurant came to be named after an ancient Chinese counting instrument--basically a low-tech calculator--our waiter, only half-jokingly, said owners found amusing the idea of some patrons needing an abacus to check their tabs. In other words, the place ain't cheap.
